The Nike Pulse Watch ultimately presents an opportunity to combine advanced health monitoring features with the brand’s strong reputations in sports and fitness. Through market research and trend analysis, I’ve gained several insights into the product’s potential success and challenges.
The market research I’ve done helps support Nike’s objectives by demonstrating strong consumer demand for a fitness watch that can combine health tracking and athletic performance monitoring. The Nike Pulse Watch is a product that aligns with Nike’s mission to inspire athletes by expanding into this market and strengthening customer loyalty with the brand. Current industry trends for fitness watches are projected to grow 12.3% over the next eight years, anticipating 4.2 billion USD in revenue. As it stands, many people are becoming more health conscious even if they are not athletes. While my plan it to market to athletes because that makes the most sense for Nike, the current industry trends show that many people across all demographics are purchasing fitness watches to help take better care of themselves. Some future trends we may see will include advanced health monitoring features and possibly even AI-powered coaching. These trends create more opportunities for Nike to diversify and continue to build their brand.
There are quite a few ethical and legal influences that must be considered when conducting test market research, especially when done in comparison to similar products. First and foremost, Nike would want to make sure there is voluntary participation and offering informed consent. This can mean making sure Nike is being honest and transparent about who they are, what they are doing during this test, and the type of information they are gathering. Another standard ethical practice is that researchers are being honest about their findings and how the product is being rated amongst consumers. Overstating findings or hiding contradictory evidence would be severely unethical and diminish both the product and the brand.
The biggest limitation I’ve encountered in creating a market proposal for this product is the lack of actual industry data regarding consumer purchasing intentions. Because the Nike Pulse Watch is a proposed product, specific sales forecasts and consumer demand are difficult to determine. My market research is focused on the fitness watch industry as a whole as opposed to Nike’s exact target market.
